How to Mix Rustic Furniture With the Pieces You Already Own

You don't have to replace everything in your home to create a warm, rustic look.

In fact, I think some of the most inviting homes are the ones that don't look like everything was purchased at the same time. They have a mixture of old and new, different wood tones, favorite pieces collected over the years, and maybe even a few things that don't technically “match” at all.

If you love rustic furniture but aren't sure how to make it work with what you already own, here are some simple ways to bring it all together.

1. Start With One Rustic Piece You Love

You don't need an entire room of rustic furniture.

Start with one piece that has enough character to become an anchor in the room.

That might be a solid wood coffee table, a rustic dining table, a console table, a bench, or a beautiful cabinet.

Then work outward from there.

Instead of asking, “What else matches this?”, ask:

“What do I already own that looks good with this?”
